Nailboo®

Nailboo – The Skinny from Jonquil Beauty: We recently had the chance to try the Nailboo dip kit out. I really enjoyed the process of using this product which is available at nailboo.com. There are several beautiful colors available in the Nailboo dip kit powder nail color line! Pictured below are the Nailboo dip powder colors that came in my kit.

(Left to Right) Build Powder, Here's A Tip, Nail-Flex & Chill, Dark Dreams, Pink Lemonade

The basic process is simple but for me it was a little time consuming. However, I also have some physical limitations so I think with practice anyone can perfect their technique and the process will speed up over time.

I've also found that putting on a set of natural looking (false acrylic) nails prior to applying any Nailboo products really makes a difference in how professional your dip powder application turns out.

Suggested Nailboo Tutorial:

After you have done your standard mini-mani to clean & file your nails, apply Cuticle milk or cuticle oil and push back your cuticles, wash your hands with soap and water (and apply acrylics if you choose to). Then, wipe nails with a nail polish remover like this one from Mineral Fusion.

Then, move on to the basic Nailboo dip powder application process as described below.

Note: Cuticle milk or cuticle oil can also rehydrate your cuticles after you've completed the application process.

Basic Nailboo Dip Instructions:

(Left to Right) Base 1, Activator 2, Top 3

Step 1. Base: Brush apply the clear base liquid from the bottle labeled "Base 1", this is the first step in the powder application process and base coats are used before applying build powder/colored powders.

Step 2. Powder: Immediately dip your painted fingertip into the Build Powder / Color Powder of your choice at a 45 degree angle and pull your fingertip out of the powder after a second or two. Continue with all fingertips - one hand at a time - and then dust off the excess powder using the brush included in the kit. Basically, the base acts as a glue for the powder.

Alternate Step 2 with Step 1 until you are happy with the thickness and color of the coat.

We were given this great chart on Facebook, from another member of the Nailboo Fam FB group, that shows you a good way to apply the liquids and powders. Notice that you apply the liquids just above the cuticle line so it's not touching on all sides of the nail bed.

Step 3. Activator: Once you are content with your results from the Base and Powders in steps 1 and 2, push your cuticles back again and brush on "Activator 2". The Activator liquid is used to harden the powder and seal in color.

At this point, once the Activator dries (which only takes a few seconds) you can file and smooth out any imperfections you find in the activator coated nail. I recommend using an electronic file like this one or a nail buffer block like this one.

I personally found that the e-file really cuts your filing time down! Which, for me, getting a smooth and even look to each nail is the toughest part of the entire process.

Step 4. Top: The "Top 3" liquid is the finishing touch that secures everything together, delivers beautiful shine, and protects nails from the sun's harmful UV rays. Depending on the finish you are looking for, you can use any top coat you choose, not just those available from Nailboo. The Nailboo dip kit I tried came with a glossy shine "Top 3". I also have tried an OPI Matte top coat (see the black nails below) and that works beautifully as well.

Product Ingredients

Here's a picture of the finished manicure. These images are from my first time trying out the Nailboo Dip Kit! (Please forgive all the imperfections!!).

Overall, I enjoyed using this product, even as a beginner. The trick is to have all the tools and products you need ahead of time to help speed up the process. I'm on my third set right now and still have some filing techniques to figure out but it's a really fun process and I can see it becoming quite addictive!

💡
Note: Nailboo is a non-toxic, vegan, cruelty-free, easy-to-use kit with three simple steps. The products instantly dry without the use of a UV/LED lamp. However, there is a chance that there are toxins in the Nailboo powder dips such as certain artificial colorants and at because of this we would not recommend this product line as the top level of "Clean Beauty".

Remember to check the specific product descriptions and ingredient lists of each product you take a look at from this brand to ensure it meets your individual requirements for clean beauty prior to purchase.
