The Skinny from Jonquil Beauty:

We decided to try out the KISS® Salon Dip Color System – mainly because we had no idea that this product existed! Our only other experience with a DIY nail powder dip system has been with Nailboo® and although Nailboo® was completely on our radar, somehow this very comparable system from our current favorite press-on nail company slipped us by!!

First, I cleaned up my nails (including removing yesterday's example of the imPRESS Press-On Manicure – which you can check out here) and gave myself a mini-mani.

Note: It's always important to trim/file and shape your nails (I used the file included in the KISS® Salon Dip Color System kit) and push back or cut your cuticles. I like to push mine back, personally, because that's what the ADA recommends in their manicure and pedicure safety articles, and get all the excess adhesive, etc. off your nail plate before you start a new DIY nail routine.

I used Cutex's acetone free twist & scrub sponge nail polish remover to get a nice clean nail plate. It did a really nice job of getting everything off my nails. If you want to try this product you can get it at the following link.

Following your manicure you can get started by using the instructions provided in the kit from KISS®!

  1. Pour some of your color powder into the 45 degree powder dipping tray (pictured below).
  2. Being careful not to apply any of the liquid to your skin, apply the base coat to your first nail
  3. Dip your finger into the dipping tray making sure to immerse your fingernail completely.
  4. Pull your finger out of the powder and dust off any loose powder back into the tray using the convenient sponge included in the kit.
  5. Move on to the next nail and follow steps 2-4 until you have completed all of your nails.

6. Once you've given the base coat time to completely dry (about 2-3 min), using the pink side of the nail file (the buffer) lightly buff off any imperfections you see in the powder.

Tip: If you accidentally remove too much powder (usually a hole forms when you've taken off too much) follow steps 2-6 again for that nail until you are happy with the result.

7. Paint the activator on each nail. The activator hardens and seals everything together. Once you have applied the activator (again avoiding your skin), wait about 1-2 minutes to let it completely dry.

8. Paint on two coats of clear coat. I used the clear coat that came with this kit but you could use any type of clear coat you prefer.

Optional: For extra shine or protection, choose another brand of clear and add it on top after everything has completely dried. I used Orly Top2Bottom on mine (Amazon link for that product here) but I also noticed they have an Orly Polishield 3 in 1 ultimate top coat that I can't wait to try next! You can get it through the Amazon link below.

Before you judge a book by its cover I need to add that I am not in any way a professional so I don't think my picture does this product justice but below is the final result! I would also say that anyone with a little better acuity, control of their hands & dexterity could do a much better job with this product than me =).

The products are actually designed well and just take some practice. Also, IMO they turned out a bit better than my previous experience with Nailboo®.

There are many more colors to choose from all available at KISS®! I've added a couple of pictures from their color line above. However, I know that Nailboo® offers SOOOO many colors it makes your heart melt!

To remove this product later, I would recommend using the Aliver Gel Polish Remover which you can get with the Amazon link here!
