Manucurist Green, Active & Green Flash: What to Know
A practical comparison of Manucurist Green, Active, and Green Flash: how each system works, which air-dry or use an LED lamp, and what research says about nail-lamp exposure.
What the research says about nail-curing lamps, how Manucurist’s polish systems differ, and how to choose the manicure that fits your routine.
Beautiful nails can make an ordinary day feel special. Maybe you love a classic red, a sheer pink, or the glossy finish of a gel manicure. And maybe you’ve also wondered what’s in your nail products—or what to make of the lamp used to cure gel polish.
Those are fair questions. At Jonquil Beauty, we think ingredient-conscious beauty starts with useful information, not fear or perfect-sounding labels. That’s why we consistently take a closer look at Manucurist Paris, a French nail-care brand with both air-drying polish and an LED-cured system.
What did the 2025 nail-lamp review find?
A 2025 scoping review in the International Journal of Dermatology gathered 17 publications about UV/LED nail lamps: 12 studies and five case reports. The authors found that tested lamps generally emitted mostly UVA, while measured output varied. Some tested exposures fell within applicable guidelines when lamps were used as directed; higher exposures were also reported. Laboratory studies found that nail-lamp radiation can cause DNA damage under experimental conditions.
That is a reason for continued research, not proof that typical manicures cause skin cancer. The review describes a limited and varied evidence base, including laboratory and case-report evidence; it cannot establish a direct cause-and-effect relationship between ordinary nail-lamp use and cancer. Nor did it test Manucurist products or compare brands. Read the peer-reviewed review.
One practical point is easy to miss: “LED” describes the light source, not a promise that a lamp is UV-free. LED nail lamps can emit UVA too. If avoiding curing-lamp exposure is important to you, an air-drying polish is a straightforward option.

Manucurist Green™, Active™, and Green Flash™: What’s the Difference?
Manucurist Green™: classic polish that air-dries
Manucurist’s Green collection is a conventional nail polish system: apply the polish and let it dry in the open air. It does not require a UV or LED curing lamp. The brand describes Green as up to 83% plant-based, depending on the product. “Plant-based” refers to ingredient sourcing; it does not mean the formula is entirely natural or risk-free.
Green may suit you if you like changing colors often, prefer a familiar polish routine, or want to avoid curing-lamp exposure. Drying and wear vary from person to person, and the brand’s wear-time statements are product claims rather than independent guarantees.

Manucurist Active™: treatment polish that also air-dries
Manucurist’s Active range is another lamp-free option, with treatment polishes designed to be worn on bare nails. The brand says Active products air-dry and should not be put under a lamp; they also are not compatible with Green Flash. If you want a simple sheer finish, Active Glow Raspberry is one tracked option.

Green Flash™: LED-cured polish
Green Flash is a separate, semi-permanent system that cures under an LED lamp. It is designed for longer wear and at-home removal. Manucurist currently describes the formula as HEMA-free. HEMA-free is a formulation detail, not a guarantee against allergy: other ingredients can still cause irritation or sensitization, and no nail product suits everyone.
Because Green Flash needs an LED lamp, it is not the lamp-free choice. If you choose it, follow the product directions, avoid getting uncured product on skin, and use the compatible system as directed. If you have a history of nail-product reactions, consider checking the full ingredient list with a qualified clinician before use.

Which one might fit your routine?
Choose Green for classic air-drying color, Active for an air-drying treatment polish applied directly to bare nails, or Green Flash for a gel-style routine that uses an LED lamp. Active products are used on their own and are not compatible with Green Flash. No option is universally best; the useful differences are how each one is applied and cured.
Manucurist’s plant-based ingredient percentages and wear claims are the company’s descriptions. They don’t establish that a product is safer, healthier, or more sustainable than every alternative. If ingredients matter to you, review the ingredient list for the exact shade and product you plan to buy, since formulas can vary.
The Jonquil Beauty Skinny
Manucurist offers three options here: Green and Active, which air-dry, and Green Flash, which cures under LED. The research gives us useful context, but it can’t tell us exactly what nail-lamp use means for every person. It also doesn’t show that Manucurist is safer than other brands.
If you want to skip the lamp, explore Green—including Green Jelly—or Active. If you want a longer-wear, LED-cured manicure, Green Flash offers a different routine. Either way, an informed choice starts with understanding how each product is used and what the research can—and can’t—tell us.
